me and my brother share this computer and we both have ipods. as long as you log onto different user names and have two separate itunes there wont be a problem, but the computer wont be able to communicate with one ipod if the other user is logged on so every time one of you tries to do something with your ipod you will have to restart or have the other person log off of the computer

Yes, you can both have your songs in one computer. My sisters and I all have our ipods in the same computer. All you or your partner has to do when you wanna put in music, is to get a blank playlist and drag and drop all the songs you wanna put on the iPod. Then, highlight all those songs and drag and drop them into your iPod.

on the left panel go to the options under the picture of your ipod and click to manually add music then your ipods can coexsist
you can then drag and drop songs onto your ipod

you can connect the ipods, no problem with that, or you can manually manage your music, that will let you keep your old music and also sync the new music, just the songs that you want
