I would have to both agree and disagree with Dina.
If you can't do something in Firefox (or any non IE browser) that you can do in IE, the problem is the browser and the site may not be compatible.
When you are the seller of information, you have to consider the buyer, they don't have to consider you. That said, most sites go to great lengths to basically provide two different sites - one for IE users and another for everyone else.
The reason is IE does not stick to standards (they have market share and use that fact to push competing tech out using Embrace - the standard, Extend - the standard, Extinguish - the competition by refusing to license the non-compliant extensions)) whereas most other browsers are simply standards compliant.
On the other hand, she is right in that using IE for whatever site you have problems with might solve the problem. If it does however, its an indicator of non-universal, non- standards compliant site design rather than a problem with Firefox.
She is also right in that Firefox might be messed up - this can happen for ANY application (IE, Firefox, Adobe, whatever) If that's the case, uninstall and reinstall.
She is furthermore right in that it might not be Firefox at all, but windows. If that's the case, you may have a virus, a trojan, have been zomified and are part of a spy ware/ad ware distribution network, all sorts of things. You would have to scan and see - but understand no results does not mean no problem - these things can hide from the programs that detect and fix them.
At the end of the day, if you are infected with a virus, spy ware or any kind of nasty, the ONLY way to really be sure you fixed it is a complete reformat and reinstall of the base OS.
To be honest, as well as you described the problem, there are still so many unanswered questions, its not possible, to give you an absolute, concrete solution based on the information provided. Hopefully the comments will give you a place to start than leads to a solution.

In order to trace the problem, u got to try to open those links in another browser, if the pages open, then in this case, the problem is with Firefox.
However, if the pages still dont open, U may try to open the messanger to make sure whether there's a net connection or not.
If it still doesnt work, this would be a virus and u'll need a virus check on ur computer.
Try also to make sure that ur network card is working properly.
