I've been surfing for a while, I'm kind of skeptic about the sites I've visited since most of the apartaments are around 700-900(E) for a ridiculous small amount of space. I would like to know what's the usual rate, and the best neighborhoods. I would be attending the Instituto de Empresa, what areas are within a reasonable distance? Thanks in advance...

apartments in Madrid, and in Europe in general for that matter, are pretty much all smaller than Americans are used to. and are expensive. if you are concerned about money your best bet is to find a piso that is shared with other students. also makes for lots of fun and interesting stories :)
Madrid's public transportation system is one of the better ones in Europe (which is to say superior to almost any American one), and most Spanish university students attending school in Madrid actually live at home with their parents. Distance isn't really much of an issue ... people don't often walk to campus. Try looking for something near a metro (subway) stop with a metro line that gets you where you want to be.
I can't offer advice on how to actually find apartments b/c when I was there I stayed with a family and it was arranged through my program. But plenty of other students I knew found their own places after arriving there, and I think most of them didn't use the internet - probably classifieds and such. Check out a guide book tailored to people with long-term stays. and buena suerte!
