My little sister wants a hedgehog, and has done extensive research on them. One thing she came across puzzled us- they are outlawed in certain states, but it never said why. We thought it might be due to a disease they could carry, but we can't find the reason.
Does anyone know?

Most likely because it is not native to North America. Probably want to keep the invasive species to a minimum. Another reason is due to stupid bureacrasy. They never said they were legal, so thus they are illegal until they say they are legal. Some restrictions are in place to protect local breeders.

Don't worry people keep them as pets in Canada with no worries of diseases (other than those specific to the hedgehog themselves).
