Actually, Theodore Sturgeon, who was responsible for the 90% BS figure (Sturgeon's Law), agreed that 95% was probably more accurate. I have been using 99% as my estimate lately.
Sturgeon was asked why "90% of all science fiction published is such BS." "Because," he replied, "90% of everything is BS." This became known as Sturgeon's Law.
The problem is, government is generally run by people on power-trips. People who get a charge out of controlling other people. And who get money out of it, too, because if you can force people to do things, it won't take long to say "Give me your money" and get it. The government does it every April 15th. You didn't imagine we paid VOLUNTARILY, did you?
Yes, we humans have some pretty unsavory things in our past. It is an open question whether we can ever really be civilized, but we gotta keep trying. What is our alternative?
As to how you separate the truth from the lies, you must do what each of us do every day: make evaluations. Choose. What seems more plausible to you? Who speaks with most consistency and clarity, important indicators of honesty? Who do the people you trust believe to be telling the truth? What do the people whose circumstances are most nearly your own have to say?

Well, change comes over time but it takes someone will the drive and motivation to lead the change before it will occur. There are simply too many leaders of the small concerns and too many followers on the big concerns. Everyone fears ridicule and want s to have to popular votes on everything so I dont hink things will change until American people stand and say 'Im tired of the BS'

The way I look at the settling of this continent is that first came exploration, discovery and trade. Then something broke down in trade through practice. Then came the need to protect trade and trade routes.
The explorers had either rich benefactors or went to their repective governments in last resort, for funding. Even the governments then, bowed to todays equivalent of corporate sponsorship. They were the rich landowners, bankers and merchants then.
The role of the government in this was to rally the troops, if you will. In order to protect and defend the trade routes. This is where government bows to corporate needs. The only wars fought in histroy to alleviate human suffering were slave revolts. The only other wars that were close calls to alleviating human suffering was the Civil War and World War Two.

Yes it is. To change, that would require effort from people to educate themselves. If people only took the time to read, they would be amazed. My suggestion, watch the history channel and do some research on the internet, maybe a person can learn a thing or two.

People believe what they want to believe. You can post links to hundreds of pages of Census Bureau data and economists' analyisis of it that refute Webb's whole "two Americas" concept but some people want to believe that they're not rich because of a great conspiracy to keep them down, and so they just "decide" to make up their own facts.

All men are created equal, except slaves, who are 60% people.
In 1491, many North American nations had cities grander than their European counterparts.
