$300 is not a lot for a laptop because the really expensive ones go upto a $1000 or more...but if you want a good quality one, then $300 is the least you should pay.

i think you'll be lucky if you find one for $300. I bought one for both of my kids but couldnt find one that cheap. Make sure she keeps it in one place while it is charging because both of my kids messed up the charging port and that costs more to fix than the actual computer. So i have 3 laptops under my bed that are broken. my son now has a desktop and my daughter is forbidden from moving the laptop from her desk while the charger is attached.

$300 is a good deal. Now if you tell me your lil sis is only 6yrs old or that you don't thing she'll take care of it. Then, yes, $300 is too much.

Thats a really cheap one if its brand new... If its used its not bad... $800 is probably a good price range for a new one... Acer 3000 is a good model for that price

For good laptop I'd say it isn't. I'd payed mine last year that much.
