I am 36 weeks and my OB checked my cervix yesterday, I was 3cm dilated and 90% effaced. After my exam, I was bleeding a lot. He said it was most likely from him checking me and the cervix being so senstive with lots of blood vessels. The bleeding was heavy yesterday, and I had some blood clots last night. I called one of the nurses and she didn't seem concerned. Over night I couldn't sleep because I had constant low back pain and dull aches in my abdomen, I haven't noticed any contractions as of yet or if I have, I can't tell the difference between them and normal baby movement. I've been a little nautious (burping alot) and have gas. My bleeding atleast has slowed down this morning. Does it sound like I am going into labor soon?

It sounds like you are getting pretty close. If this is your first pregnancy, it wouldn't be uncommon for you to walk around 4cm dialated for weeks. First labors usually take longer as the body is doing it for the first time and isn't as experienced. After my cervix was checked, I spotted. I've heard of women bleeding after their cervix was checked in the last month, but I would schedule an appointment just to make sure. Blood clots do not sound normal to me. It sounds like that you are having some contractions (which is why blood clots are moving along, which probably also means that the baby hasn't dropped either.) You could be having back labor- when your contractions are felt mainly in your backside. Here is a test- run a warm bath (not too hot, though) Soak for no more than 10 minutes. When you get out, if your contractions have stopped, then it's false labor. If they get worse.... pack your bag.

I would say yes it is starting very soon but my doctor and the nurse at the hospital said that a little blood is ok. Exceptly if it is the mucus plug. But she said any kind of bright red blood or lots of bleeding you need to come in a get checked out. That doesn't sound right that the nurse and the doctor not know what is wrong would say on the phone just don't worry about it. I would probally if still bleeding at all go in to the hospital. Tell them what you had last night. Back pain, bleeding and you are still bleeding a little today. You are worried and would like to get checked out. Good luck and don't be afraid to go up to the hospital. They are used to it. Also, there is a thing as when your plentca starts to come away from the wall of the utrus and that can be very very bad. So don't hessitate, go to the hospital.

You need to go to the Hospital what you are describing is the type of labor I had with my first when I went to the Hospital they told me I was in Early labor I was only 2 cm dilated but since I lived so far away they would keep me a little while and observe 1 hr later I told the nurse I could go home and hurt she checked me again I was 3 cm She told me then they would keep me she didn't come back to the room for 2 hrs. The day shift nurse came on duty I told her I had to push she checked me and took me to the delivery room where I had the baby in less than 30 min my Husband didn't even know they had took me in. So every labor is different I wouldn't take any chances.

well my dear if your 3cm dilated... its sounds like you are in the first stage of labor. try to relax because you could be in this stage for awhile yet. Ive had four babies and i know... thous annoying contractions might not come until the last minute,, your right about the burping, funny that we get wind at the end. but i must ask? why did your ob give you a internal at 36 weeks this normally brings on labor...... any way GOOD LUCK and don't forget to breath it will all be over soon

I am 37 weeks pregnant and I have been 4 cm dilated for 2 weeks now! The bleeding is just probably from the exam because I had the same thing happen to me. Stay off your feet and relax. Every pregnancy is different, so to say you will be in labor soon would be not adequate

I agree with the above poster - I am pregnant w/ #5 and I've never experienced the bleeding like that. My water broke at home with my last baby and I never had any blood!!! I think I'd skip calling nurses and speak directly to your doctor!!!
GOOD LUCK!

Yep!! The lower back pains are probably labor. I would call your dr and ask if he can check you again or go into labor and delivery and have them check you. They might keep you anyway. Good luck.

the blood clots concern me...i had streaking (just a little bit of blood)....i would go to a doctor and get a second opinion...it is your right to do so...it could be placental previa, which is serious and requires attention....
