It is indeed frightening to know we may have yet seen his best. Federer has never concentrated on one particular aspect of his game nor relied on one. He has solidly built his game with equal attention to every aspect and shot. That is why he is the champion he is and why when the challengers come to him he can destroy them with an apparent ease. He is special. Like Laver was in his era and I for one am so glad I have witnessed a player who will go down as probably the best player the game has produced. Retire, are you kidding, he is only 25. Players need to work to his standards and lift their games so they can compete. Good Luck to him at the French. It's the one thing he has left to conquer. Maybe this year he may just do it and put his doubters and critics to rest.

How quickly we forget about the greatness of Sampras. He was just as dominant on the Men's Tour during the 1990s as Federer is today. And, it can be argued that he faced tougher competition since his career overlapped other great players such as Edberg, Becker, Agassi, Lendl, Kafelnikov, Muster, Courier etc. Federer is great, maybe the best, but the top of the men's Tour isn't as competitive as it used to be.
Borg, retired at an early age but he too was an amazing tennis player. In terms of pure athleticism (strength, stamina, agility) I would have to say that he was the best. The Game was much different in Borg's era, because the tennis rackets were not made of graphite, or Titanium. So, he didn't have the explosiveness that Federer has in his game.
I don't have enough information to really judge Rod Laver, because he was before my time, but just looking at his record, I would not say that Federer is the better player. It's always interesting to compare athletes of different eras, but unfortunately, such comparisons are really meaningless.

Roddick. Anybody pro can do a tweener. Its not that impressive that Federer did it multiple times. Watch some videos on Fabrice Santoro, he did it even more then Federer! It was on championship point so the pressure was on Roddick. The stakes were also a lot higher with Raonic being in the winning position. Full credit to Andy!

Federer..i wonder if he is good in other things like he is with tennis...he is too dominating in the game...a perfectionist in every way..and what kills me is that he doesn't even break a sweat...i mean the guy never gets a challenge from anyone...what he did to Roddick was kind of expected...i mean we always see him making Roddick sweat it out and yet Federer keeps his cool...you could say he's a genius....i think what roddick needs to do is stop taking his defeats from Federer too lightly....he should find his, tough take no s*&^ self...i mean he should give Federer a hard time..i don't know how he will do that..but he needs too...meanwhile i think Federer should keep doing what he does best...he's unstoppable....he's the avalanche of tennis...

Roger Federer is the best player right now on the tour. He destroyed Roddick in the Semifinal. Federer will dominate this year and win hopefully all the slams.

Federer was simply amazing. but I do believe he's close to his peak, if not, that's really bad news for every one. well, just his opponents. he made andy eat his words about the gap closing. when he saw that his opponent had improved marvellously, he just upped his game and gave him a thrashing.
I for one, hopes Federer becomes the only man to win the Golden Slam in 2008 - that will epitomise his dominance in the sport. Then he can retire, cos he would have won it all. Unless he decides to go about beating all the records and setting up new ones.

rafa is my fav player but even he cannot do what roger federer did....just humiliated the number 1 american player and made him almost cry.....only man that can beat federer consistently is rafa nadal...rafa gets inside fed's head....yes federer is the greatest ever by far....no one can challenge him...when he is hot ...he is white hot....he is in another league to any other player ever....roddick was just a mere stain that stood in federer's way to the aussie open final...its a shame rafa isnt going to be in the final....roddick is actually widening the gap rather than closing it!!! the only man that could have even given federer a fight today was rafa nadal....no one else would have come close.....roddick got a hard hit to his pride....hope he didnt go and jump off the nearest bridge in melbourne!!!! roddick thought with connors he could start beating federer....sure he got close a couple of times but close isnt good enough....its either a win or a loss!!!! now the record is 13-1....fed is just owning roddick.....i seriously thought roddick was gonna cry on court....even connors was smiling...wondering what the hell to do....roddick didnt know where to look....he was gettin humiliated left ..right and center....i dont think roddick really has the game to beat federer unlike nadal....roddicks big serve is his only weapon and now federer seems to found a counter for that by just letting the ball hit the raquet rather than hitting the ball....with the speed of the ball...u only have to touch it and it goes back into the other side with depth...safin did the same thing....roddick is so one dimentional!!! forget sampras...laver...borg...none of them would even take a set off federer even when they played at their best.....they all had the same type of game as roddick and few current players like hewitt....but nadal has a different game....gotta say roger is best ever....rafa is 2nd best ever!!!!!!!! i think by the time these 2 are done federer will have the most grand slams and rafa will have the 2nd most!!!!

I didn't see it, but I heard he was awesome again.
I think he may be the greatest ever tennis player, he seems to have no weaknesses and this endless supply of shots that its impossible to keep up with. I saw him play at Wimbledon a couple of years ago (the first year he won) and it was amazing, I've never seen anything like it, he is fast on court and always completely in tune with where the ball is going. Its really incredible. (Not sure if you can tell, but I'm something of a fan!)

Its hard to compare different eras. different racquet technology etc.. But yes it could be a scary sight to see Federer in his prime(which hes close to right now).. Well see in May/June at Roland Garros if he can become the complete surface player.
