Ask around at local community colleges or VoTech schools for basic car maintenance classes. Maybe you will be able to fix it yourself.
Pay the money for membership in an automobile club like AAA
Find a reliable small shop with towing and keep their card handy.

call your mom, your cousin, your brother, your sister, your uncle, your aunt, your granfather, your grandmother, your lawyer, your insurance, a tow truck... duh!
