ok, if in the end, all we're going to do is die, then why do we work so hard to earn money, make a name for ourselves, and look for a purpose, the only reason we try to make a legacy is the hopes that future generations will rememeber us, but how long will that legacy last? what im trying to ask is whats the point?

So far everyone else has given a pretty good answer to your question and I too was once asking this question. We are here to love, to be loved, to experience, to try to overcome all obstacles that stand in our way of following our bliss which in turn will help us to grow spiritually. We are not bodies with a spirit, actually it's the other way around. Those of us who crave knowledge, wisdom, and love one another without judging no matter what are the ones who are truly enlightened beings. It's not about money, fast cars, hot women/men, yeah those things are there for a reason, but the purpose they serve is simply to be overcome. I'm not saying you can't enjoy those things. It is your birth right to enjoy everything life has to offer, but to put all of those things above what is truly important and neccessary for spiritual growth is just setting yourself back and keeping yourself from the real treasure in the end, which will mean more to you than anything this place has to offer, I promise. On a more scientific note, we are here because we want to know everything, whether our shallow conscious mind thinks we do or not, we do or we wouldn't be here. To truly 'know' something is to 'experience' it. We are all in this together.

Because life is an experience, just like anything else you go through on a daily basis. So you might as well have as much fun as you can while you're stuck in this place, with the time you have left. No one is totally sure about what happens to all of us when we die, so why should you prepare for the inevitable eternal mystery so soon? If enjoyment to some people is buying a bunch of junk and getting laid as much as possible, so what. We just have to abide by our society's norms so we don't get locked up, and have to suffer during the little time we have "alive".

Well, because we are largely composed of matter, and considered living things, we all must die
.
I believe that we have to make the most of our lives and we only have one shot at it, and it is now. It's not so much leaving a legacy behind as it is being kind to ourselves as well as others.
Giving to others in any way we can in order to make their lives better.

And if you believe in God, the life after this one is the one that counts more. This life is only temporary. The afterlife when we die has no sorrow, pain, tears, or suffering. So if you keep that much in perspective, you have something to live for.

There must be a point. That"s the first point. Do you see anything around you that has no purpose? True, everything material disappears eventually, but only after it has contributed its bit in this vast cosmic process.

Another point to consider is that if you were not here, you would not have been able to ask this question. Asking this question is, in itself, a lesson in awareness. Keep on asking YOURSELF the question. The answers you get from others will be less important, including this one.

There is no point to living, outside of the continuation of our species (if that is even a legitimate reason). Legacy will end as everything else, so it doesn't matter. You might as well enjoy yourself while you're alive and do things that make you happy.

I think that you may be looking at the wrong things, money is not life. Life is learning and growing. When you leave this life you will find those little feelings of joy and happiness are what it is all about. I used to be much like you and wonder what the heck the point is, but I went inside and found I was just living with my eyes closed. Laugh, do what feels good that is what life is...... Find your Bliss!!!!

All living creatures must die that is the process of life. It sounds like you are lonely and need someone to love. When you have children your legacy will last forever. Regretfully, we work hard so our children can question their future existence just like you.

Sounds kind of fatalistic!

Look at it from this angle: Since we get up everyday, we breathe in fresh air, we have all of our faculties, everything (physical) still works, some of us can have that cup of coffee which we say starts our day, our children are well and bring smiles to our faces, there is someone in our lives with whom we want to spend time, then, why not live all the same? What's the point of dying?

King Solomon said in the book of Ecclesiastes "It's all vanity!"

While waiting for that fateful day, why not live?

Life is not the point.

This life is a learning environment. Learning is the point.

Death is just the bell to tell us that class is over.

Love and blessings Don

If you have that mentality of why live if i'm going to die? Then you may as well kill yourself (don't mean that to sound mean)

Death is what motivates us to live and do what we do in life. Life and death are equal. If we didnt die, we'd never get anything done as we'd always put things off because we have an infinity in which to do it.
