The stomach hardening up, is what is known as braxton hicks contractions. Nothing to worry about there. Just let your doctors know at your next visit.
And when the baby is getting more cramped in there, they move around alot less. They may only move at night when you want to rest. When you are moving about all day, it kinda lulls them to sleep, and keeps them calm. But when you are inactive, thats when the baby should be a little restless. As long as thats happening, I see nothing to worry about at all. Besides, some babies are more active then others in there. Trust me I have 4 children, and 2 were kickers & hitters from inside, but the other 2, were really mellow, and only moved around if I wanted to sleep, or if I antagonized them from the outside, by moving them or poking at them. lol
Enjoy this time while you have it still. There are many more things to come. And only you as this childs mother, can experience these things first hand!
Congrats, and Best wishes for you and your baby!

I'm sure you have heard this expression several times for last 20 weeks"Every pregnancy is different". From my experience I'll tell you that you should stop wondering and relax. It doesn't really matter how many weeks you are pregnant it matters how active your baby is. Some women do not feel much movements even on There 30th week. Did you already have an ultrasound? If not you should have it now. You also better to talk to your midwife about your question. i totally understand your concerns- during your first pregnancy you wonder and worry about every little thing but your woman are not always the best helpers as they might have it differently.Best of luck for you and your baby!Enjoy

The muscles tightening and releasing again is the uterus contracting, which according to a pregnancy book im reading happens through-out pregnancy but not all women are aware of it. As for the movement it depends on whether or not this is your first pregnancy...if so you are quite luckily to be feeling movement....many women dont get any until around 22-24 weeks and even then its not a very strong feeling. Hope this helps.....goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Could feel mine at 16 weeks move alot! Everybody is different!!!!!The stomach is hard while pregnant and sounds normal!!!!!!!!! You should feel some daily movement several times a day! Have you had the 20 week ultra sound yet? If no, you will soon, and they will measure and know how the baby looks, and will check the heart beat and will tell you if something is not normal!!!!! Good luck with the pregnancy!!

Yes generally, although toward the very end they can calm down simply as they have less room. I have had 3 and I seem to remember that the movements got steadily easier to recognise the further on through -from about 20 weeks. Some people seem very anxious about movements, but as long as you are feeling them every day thats good. I was always told that when "mum" relaxes more oxegen gets through to the baby which would explain why many women,me included, often feel more movements either in bed or when they sit down to relax. Hope it goes really weel for you,its a special time so enjoy!

if this is your first baby, then the movements are few and you wont know what they are feeling like. you may have a fluttering butterfly feeling this is your baby. you lose your waist at 20 weeks, sorry. if later one in your pregnancy baby should move about 10 times in a day if not drink a cold glass of water and it will move. dont worry. the tightenings as called braxton hicks and they let you be aware of the contractions. they will become closer together and stronger near the end of your pregnancy and become your contractions. Enjoy. x

At 20 weeks babies movements are very light. When you are laying down relaxing you should be able to get baby moving. The stomache tightening you are describing sounds like Braxton Hicks. They should not be painful but at times can be uncomfortable.

well the stomach tightening up sounds like Baxten hicks, that's normal as long as it don't happen continuous, at 20 weeks you should feel the baby fluttering but not really strong movement, as the baby grows you will feel more movement

being pregnant is a very wonderful experience. it's normal that you feel movements of some kind or other but as the weeks go by you really will experience really kicks and sort of somersaults especially when you lie down.(if you are in doubt or whatever it's best to ask doctor's advice ) but from experience I can tell you it's normal. enjoy this experience and take care of yourself and the baby.

if this is your first then relax. your baby is constantly moving without you knowing it. many times babys move at night because your still and you can pay attention to them. the movements should feel like popcorn until your about 24-27 weeks and then they should hurt more and become more noticable. Then about 34-40 weeks you won't feel them move as much because they've ran out of room. so relax your baby is fine. consult your doctor or check babycenter.com, parenthood.com, americanbaby.com, pregnancy.com.
