For over six years, President Bush has vehemently denied that global warming is a valid scientific phenomenon. In fact, he has intimated that it's a myth; the biggest hoax in history. Now, for some reason, he announced during his State of the Union speech that America needs to take measures to address the long-term effects of global warming. Why the sudden change in attitude?

Because if the US addresses CO2 emissions then pressure can be brought against China and India to reduce their emissions. The point isn't about forcing China and India to be more environmentally responsible (they are the world most heinous polluters), its about forcing them to reinvest their money into pollution control and slow down their economic growth. The US has been working on MACT laws for 20 years, for the burgeoning countries to play catch up will require a lot of investment.

Asian countries have been building so many factories so quickly they ignored the environmental consequences to build their economies quicker. The administration's new found concern about the environment is about slowing the economic growth of the other countries, it has little to do with global warming. Fairy tales don't concern the administration, money does.

Becuase Bush has been totally emasculated by Nancy and the Democrats. Did you notice that the first words out of his mouth during the SOTU speech were kissing up to Mama Nancy? He's even groveling to liberals to the extent of referring to GW by its new catch-all name: "Global Climate Change".

I don't know. The science doesn't support the whole global waming-greenhouse gas myth. It is this type of thing that has made conservatives question Bush since his election.

He is mistakenly under the impression that if he appeases the global Marxists then they will ease up on him.

I'll enjoy watching him learn the hard way since that is the only way he'll finally understand that those people could really care less about the environment. they want him destroyed.

Actually, the oil companies have conceded too. (http://wcco.com/local/local_story_024232003.html )

How about because the position finally became visibly untenable?

Nancy was over his left shoulder. Could she have helped him realize how hot headed he has been, on the issue?
