The best thing I've found is to take zinc and vitamin C as soon as you feel the cold starting. Take about twice the RDA (recommended daily allowance) for a day or two. Then, take the RDA of Zinc but continue the extra vitamin C. The cold (in my experience) will be very mild and not last more than a few days. Any excess vitamin C that your system doesn't need will be eliminated by your body.

Rest.
Drink lots of water.
Drink hot tea with lemon and honey if you have a sore throat.
Sip on brothy soups.
Wash your hands, or sanitize them very often.
Stay warm. Wind or cold air just make you feel worse.
Wear socks!
Eye drops are helpful if yours eyes are dry.
A stiff espresso or cappuccino in the morning gets your blood flowing if you are so groggy in morning.
If you are severely congested take a nice hot shower, use saline mist in your nose to get yucky stuff moving, and make sure all your yucky tissues are thrown away and not left to make you sick again.

Hope you feel better!

You should try slicing off a piece of lemon; suck on it and swallow it; then chase it down with a tablespoon of honey. It's an old remedy that has ran in my family for years. It will knock that cold right out! If you don't want to try that then just eat a lot of foods containing vitamin C (oranges, mangos, etc). Hope you feel better!

Have a biggish shot of whisky or rum. Then get lots of rest. Take a warm honey and lemon drink. The warmth will relax your throat, honey is a natural antiseptic and the lemon will cut through any phlem. The booze will heat your body up and most times will knock it out of you. Try and keep your body warm and take it easy. Also keep up with the fruit n veg intake.

Get a warm vaporizer, using it will help clear your nose and make breathing easier. Drink lots of tea, chicken soup. Although orange juice is a great source of Vit C, it is LOADED with sugar. Try having an actual orange instead and don't forget to rest!!!
