I have the impression that there are 2 sides to extended warranty question. On one hand people are telling me it's bad and I shouldn't buy one and on the other hand people say it's worth it depending on my financial status and the product itself. Isn't it better to just say that we just don't have the correct information available to evaluate the value of the warranty? Or is it more a question of disorganization?

i think you should only buy them depending on what its for. like a big screen tv its for sure a good idea, anything thats expensive i guess would be something to take an extended warrranty out on. if you get a warranty make sure you read ALL the fine print because thats where they get you, make sure you understand what the warranty covers.

On most things like desktops, cars, CD players etc. An extended warranty may be a waste of money. When I repaired laptops for a living a lot of times they would come for repair after the one year warranty was up. The most common things to go bad were keyboards, LCD's and motherboard. The motherboards and LCD's were expensive. I might recommend and extended warranty unless you never take it anywhere and or a very light user oft it. Though I do believe laptops are more reliable than they were 3 or 4 years ago.

Only on a major purchase, such as a vehicle. The manufacturer warranty on every thing else is good enough....

Only on big ticket items such as Frig...TV you need to check out how long the manufacture will still behind their product..read small print & then decide .
