In Martyrdom, you sacrifice your life to call attention to an injustice and thus promote the cause (rightly or wrongly by others standards). In suicide, you end your life out of a sense of hopelessness for things to change for the better for you. Suicide is generally considered "selfish". Martyrdom is mostly considered and "unselfish" act. Both views are debatable in my private logic viewpoint!

Well, the phrase is about 3/4 of a Panic! At the Disco song.
But, martyrdom is when you kill yourself or die in order to keep your religion, or choose to die rather than renounce your God. [Example: If a man puts a gun to your head and tells you to profess that you are one of Satan's followers, or he'll kill you, and you refuse and continue to say you are one of [blank]'s followers, you are a martyr.]

I always felt like martyr's should have also done something....praiseworthy in their lives, but that's not the case.

Suicide is purely choosing to just give up your own life.

Martyrdom is usually used to describe a selfless act that leads to your demise, to either accomplish a goal for your god or further the cause of your Jihad. Suicide is a purely selfish act.

Matyrs generally don't WANT to kill themselves, but have offered themselves up as a sacrifice in order to help someone or some cause.

Suicide is very selfish and ends up hurting others.
