The case might be that they should get paid but not like Reggie Bush was paid. They should get like an allowance per month or whatever but that should be it. The problem with paying athletes in college is that it turns into a case of "Which school can pay the most" and that leads to the problem we have in baseball where big markets like the Yankess can spend millions and millions of dollars but small market teams cannot afford to spend that much.
Paying athletes is a bad idea unless it is very tightly monitored.

Get paid? No way then it would be like minor league sports. Youd have the top team always on top. Whoever could dish out the most money would be the best almost every year. They are already getting paid in a way free tuition. You cant beat that I wish I wouldve gotten my way paid instead of working to get through. And its sad because today not many could pay their own way without getting some sort of loan. Athelets get away with to much now. Make an example of him. I guess he never heard of Maurice Clarett.

I agree they should get paid. The colleges are making so much money off of them why should they not get a part of it. If you were a salesperson in college and your company did really well you would get paid. The colleges can make up to 40 million on a BCS game, and the athletes who got them there never see any of that money. Then they claim to use the money for the school, then they use the recognition they get from the football games and basketball games and charge higher tuition to the regular students. Imagine if the team who won the BCS would pay for all of there students tuition for a semester or half if they make it to a BCS game. Instead the deans, coaches, and other old white guys get there pockets lined.

I'm with you, they shoudl defiantely be paid for the hard work. The coaches are overly paid, and the players get nothing! And for the person who thinks USC loses respect, nope, they do not. They are a great football team, and the NFL will still draft them if they are good, regardless if they took money or not!!

I agree that they are getting paid in a free college eduation at a big name school.
However, the one thing that makes college sports really worth watching is knowing that these guys aren't making big bucks for their sports. They go out and play for something other than money, which I think is great.

Actually, college athletes CAN get paid! I believe they're able to work jobs and such, there's a limit they can make, however. But across the board, college athletes should be paid, especially those on athletic scholarship from impoverished neighborhoods. Give them some pizza money or something!!

I care because IF he did then the program(USC) needs PUNISHED, espically if it can be proven that Carrol knew, also he needs the hiesman taken from him. I don't care if you think they should be paid. I wouldn't even care if the NCAA allowed it. The point is that he was doing something WRONG/ILLEGAL. We need to punish people who do wrong. Not just say the rule is stupid. Heck I think the law against Marijuana is stupid. I don't toke up though. I accept that it is illegal no matter how much I am against the law.

Yeah, I really don't give a crap either. And if people think they can stop this kind of thing they are delusional. The universites do what they need to do to get player to make their football (or w/e) programs more known which gets them more $$, and sadly, $$ makes the world go round --so it's not going to stop anytime soon.
