I have ZoneAlarm, and all I have to do to disable it is to right-click the icon in the system tray, and select shut down ZoneAlarm. Your firewall may be different, but the option will be there somewhere.

If you are using something like Norton Internet Security, then you have to disable it by right clicking its icon from the taskbar and selecting the "disable norton..." option. If its ZoneAlarm you can do the same procedure and selecting the "Shutdown ZoneAlarm Pro" option. If it is any other firewall just go to windows task manager (CTRL ALT DELETE), select processes, and kill any process that you feel resembles the name of ur firewall. the firewall will resume automatically after you restart ur machine, or you can manually restart it (the firewall) from the start->programs menu
