Depends...does your employment contract give you sick days...personal days...vacation days? If not...go to work and be glad you have a job. Your employer can fire you for not showing up when scheduled.

Well out of courtesy you should get someone to replace you or say trade shifts with someone who is OFF. Depending on your career. Why would you cancel a shift unless an emergency came up or you were sick? Then, you are no longer obligated.....your employer will have to deal with it.

Your obligation is to work your scheduled work shift. However you have the right to call in sick or to schedule a vacation day in advance.
