And do you always set out goals at the start of every year? Mine this year is to qualify for the UK Ironman triathlon and to compete in as many marathons as i can. I've always thought its very important to set out goals, and im just looking for others opinion on the subject. Cheers

I had three New Year's resolutions:

(1) Become more responsible and organized.
(2) Stop being so shy, withdrawn, and worried about how things may go wrong or people's disapproval.
(3) Become a vegetarian.

As you can see, I'm going through a major change in my life this year, but so far, so good!

I set out goals on a regular basis, and review my progress on a regular basis too. I find that NLP techniques on working with timelines are very useful, as this allows you to future pace yourself, and plan ahead in a constructive manner.

The trick of goals is to know when you've achieved, and congratulate yourself on the fact. Don't move the goalposts on yourself when you're 80% of the way there, for that extra push, because if you do, you'll end up achieving loads but not feeling successful (speaking from personal experience).

My goals for the next six months are all boring work stuff, except for the creative writing. And moving house.
