Daniel,. there IS an Indian word for curry! The word is tharkari (I'm not sure about the spelling but the 'th' is pronounced softly and the first 'r' is rolled, like 'rr'. That is where the 'curry' came from. I guess if you can find an Englishman who does not like roast beef and potatoes with parsnips, etc., you can find an Indian who does not like curry! Me, I was born in India, and love it!

"Curry" as a concept is strictly British. There's no word in any Indian language for 'curry'. Most of the stuff you get in "Indian" restaurants bears very little relationship to real Indian food. The most popular dishes - Chicken tikka masala and Balti - were invented in the UK.
