Well it doesn't affect the tuning or while I play my guitar but I just wanted to know if there's anyway I can get rid of it.

I read that Coca Cola removes rust...should I try that???

You could replace them.......but I wouldn't pour coke on them.

If they don't effect tuning at all, why bother? I'm sure it's just surface rust, and It will give your guitar a bit of a "vintage" vibe.....people pay big money for new guitars that are given a "vintage" or "relic" treatment....which often includes parts that are rusting.

I cannot imagine why you'd want to do this. You're not going to try to convert a guitar to bass, are you? The neck and truss rod system may not be sufficiently strong to handle the increased string tension, the scale length won't be correct, and you'll have to change the nut, bridge, and pickups. In other words, you'd probably have to replace everything on the guitar except for the body and the vol/tone controls. And you'd likely wind up with an instrument that wasn't a very good bass and can't be converted back to guitar.

You can use sand paper to remove the rust, but afterwards, the exposed area must be coverered with touchup paint (if they are already painted). If they are chrome, they will need to be chromed again. The only permanent way is to replace the tuners.

Replace them - its fairly cheap and easy to do depending which machine heads you buy. I would'nt rub coca cola on them not sure that it would have any effect apart from making them sticky.
