Email don't talk.
Since there's a lot of sore throat and the newer flu going around here goes. Less than 10% of bad sore throats are strep which are treatable with oral antibiotics to avoid more serious problems. Most 40 - 60% are viral which only rest and Tylenol will help. No aspirins for kids. Get well soon.

Sore throats can become very serious. First of all, if you are a smoker or exposed to a lot of passive smoke that could be the cause. If the pain is so bad I suggest to see your doctor to see if the condition needs to be treated with anti biotics. I know that a lot of people don't like seeing the doctor and I am one of them. But when the discomfort becomes worse or won't go away, the doctor should be seen.

K--this may sound weird but it's actually quite tasty, and I find it really soothing:
Hot milk (you can heat it up with a frother if you have a cappucino maker, or, just boil in a small saucepan on the stove. Whole milk works the best);
Mix it with some honey and pepper--yes, black pepper. Soothes the throat and is very comforting.

My boss at a previous job was Indian and told me about a remedy that her family has been using for generations. Go to the grocery store and buy whole Ginger root - not the preground stuff, but a small chunck of it (normally found in the fresh vegetables and fruit section). In a mug of hot water, mix 1 tbsp of FRESH ground ginger and honey to taste. Even with the honey, it doesn't taste all that great but IT WORKS!

Cammomile tea works for me! Comfrey tea is good too!
Many doctors say epson salts or baking soda and then glass of milk afterwards but I prefer the herbal method I mentioned above!

old wives tale is to gargle with salt and water. The salt will kill off the bacteria. Use 1 teaspoon in half a cup full of warm water and gargle...be careful not to swallow or will make you sick!!

I like to swallow a teaspoon of honey. That seems to help. Also, drink warm water with lemon in it. Up your fluids and try to rest more.
