We were in Edinburgh at the weekend and there was a really weird smell, everywhere!

The smell was coming from the breweries, which are located in the west of the City. There used to be many of them, but not sure how many are left. You only get the smell when the wind's coming from that direction. Edinburgh is known as 'Auld Reekie' just for that reason.

I know that you mean- seriously - it does have a 'unique'smell. I often went there on research and thought the same thing. I wonder if they have a really old water, sewage and drainage systems or something. It is a foosty smell, not horrible or anything.
No offence to Edinburgh, it is a lovely city after all.

I used to say the exact same thing, it was like pop corn or something but apparently its hops from the brewery, tiz weird tho your right!

it smells like fresh air and train fumes. and old towns smells of brew and new town smells like bus fumes, well on princes st anyway. it smells musty sometimes after the rain. but i love the weather and the smells.
