Try unplugging the printer at the back for a few minutes and see if that works. If not restart your computer that usually works for me when my printer says I am out of paper and there is paper in the tray. Good luck.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to uninstall the printer and then re-install it. I had the same problem with my HP printer and uninstall/install worked...for awhile. It became more and more frequent, which meant that it was time to get another printer. But try the uninstall/install approach and see if it works. Good luck.

I have a lexmark 3300,
and had the same thing for a month or two. i will never understand why they havent got that answer in their trouble shooting section. but what i did was to open the top take out the cartidges and replace the same cartriges and then close it and run the set up program it worked, but what a pain for sure.

Try the off/on thing, but your description points to NOT the PC, but the printer --a sensor [ micro-switch or optical ] that is stuck or broken.

I think nearly all printers tell you to unplug the mains & usb cable re-attach and it should be OK
