As soon as you start taking prenatal vitamins. It's the iron in the vitamins that causes the problem.

From 6 to 8 weeks, your system slows down to get more nutrients out of the food you eat and the vitamins you take. That means, your system absorbs more water to eliminate the waste, especially if you are feeling sick and not drinking enough. The cure is actually to eat less more often and drink more water and fruit nectar.

The constipation stops at around 12-14 weeks and then starts up again in the last few weeks.

After the birth, you need to be even more careful to avoid constipation. Below is my article on the topic to read.

The bowel just becomes extra sluggish because of increased pressure on it and also the hormones, and the effect that they have. With my first pregnancy my constipation started about 5-6 weeks but had none with my second baby....now on third pregnancy (nearly 10 weeks) and mine seems to have started this time at about 8 weeks.....what a pain in the bum...lol. Goodluck x

I did find though because i didnt really want to use things from the chemist that shredid wheat really helped me. But to be honest i think it is down to everyone body being different so try lots of different home remedies for it and see which one suits your body.

I'm 31 + 2 and haven't really suffered from any constipation. Just make sure you eat a diet high in fibre with plenty of water - that should keep everything moving!
