woman was pregnant and the baby survived and you were the "next of kin", would you take on the responsibility of raising the child, or would you give it up for adoption?

It depends

Raising a child is a huge responsibility.

I would raise the child because I am at a point in my life where I am capable of nourishing the life of another.

If I was not able to do that and give the child unconditional love I would let the child be adopted and pray that this was the Lord's will.

I know a lot of people are not goign to want to hear this but not every woman or man is destined for parent hood. The best thing we can do is be honest about this so that an innocent child doesnt suffer.

I hope this helps

Excellent question. My first reaction was to raise the child, but my husband and I are slowing down, not "young" or financially secure late 50's. Then I thought of all the young and sorrowful hopeful adoptive parents out there, who could give a child a young family home. But we couldn't cut ourselves off entirely, and that could be a sticky point.

Result: we would raise the child, with the help of all the resources available to us, family, friends, school and church. We trust our son to bond now, and by the time we became too infirm, he could take over. God has shown me (I wasn't looking) several times in my life that rotten things often have long-term beneficial outcomes for more than one of the people involved - a ripple effect actually.

If that was the only child involved then I would except the responsibilty but if there were others like more that two that could be a problem and then you have to consider your own family if you are a single parent and what have you... The financial burden may be to great or you may not have the space or able to accommodate another child in your life at the time and what about your spouse and his feelings there is a lot to swallow in a case like that but you'd make sure that the child is placed properly if you could not and not feel guilty.

I would raise the child. Blood is blood the child would have a good home and be loved like they were my own. No child should ever have to grow up with out a parent.

If my brother and his wife were to be the unfortunate victims of an accident and my sister-in-law was pregnant (God forbid!), my husband and I would without a doubt be willing to raise their child with our own children. We would be able to teach that child all about thier parents and who they are and keep them in contact with both sets of grandparents. This is what families do.

If I were the next of kin I would raise the kid. There is no way that could ever happen in my family as it is though.
