Think about the question you asked... its incorrect... 1kg of water weighs exactly the same as 1kg of whiskey...

what you should have asked is "is water more dense than whiskey", to which the answer would be... yes it is denser, because the whiskey is a mixture that contains approx 40% alcohol, which is less dense than water.

A pound of water weighs the same as a pound of whiskey.

What you're talking about is density, not weight. Whiskey is less dense than water because of the high alcohol content.

I know what you meant...is a certain volume of water heavier than the same volume of whiskey? (Some of these people are being picky talking about densities.)
The answer is e.g 1 pint of water is heavier than 1 pint of whisky.
There is a device called a hydrometer that can show you the % alcohol /water in drinks. It can be used to check if unscrupulous publicans water down their beer/spirits.

my mate who is twenty stone (280 pounds) downed a pint of pure malt whiskey after drinking the other bit of the bottle with coca cola he wasnt sick but got alcohol poisoning and a reeking hangover a boy of 8 and a half stone like yourself would not have any sort of happy ending after a bottle of whiskey, dont be thinking that you are just going to be a bit tipsy your are going to be paraletic and in need of medical assistance have some respect for yourself as nobody wants to see you pi s s and s h i t yourself then spew on your mates carpet theres nothing wrong with a drink but theres drinking to socialise and drinking to get drunk and theres a time and a place for both!!

Water has a density of 1000kg/m3 at 20deg C.. 40% Malt whisky should have a density of about 900kg/m3
Ice has a density of 917kg/m3..so ice should sink in whisky..

Yes it is, but why doesn't the alcohol settle out, but I think the trick you mentioned is just a trick.

Yes it is. That is why the magic trick works. You can use water and any type of oil as well.

Ignore the pedants talking about density. You are correct - water is denser so it is heavier than whisky.
