I bet there's something in your life that is frustrating you, that is, if the act was deliberate and violent.
On the other hand, if you accidentally killed someone, that's a bit different. Perhaps you are feeling a bit out of control.
As far as what the dream means, it's generally just the brain making sense out of random electrical impulses that naturally occur in the brain. You can dream forward OR backward (I know I have).
One thing for certain, it ISN'T a prophecy - you aren't going to kill anyone. Don't be scared, just think a bit about it then give it no further attention.

this is nothing to be scared about, DON'T WORRY. death in dreams rarely means actual death. To dream that you killed someone, forewarns that heavy stress may cause you to lose your temper and self-control. Identity the characteristics of the person that you have killed and ask yourself if you feel any rage towards this person in your waking life. You may be expressing some rage or hatred toward this person. however it could just as likely mean that u watched a horror movie before going to bed or had had a stressful day

If you are killing someone in your dreams, you are probably expressing hostile feelings. Consider this an opportunity to look at your negative feelings and decide what would be the best and the least destructive way to address them

shake it off i have had a dream about killing someone also it was very vivid and i was scared when i woke up also but i have yet to kill anyone so don't worry so much it is just a dream. your proably just stressed in afew days the creapy what did i do feeling will go away.

it might be that you saw a movie or it might ur subconsious taking anger out or it could be that you are a sick and twisted person or it could be just that a dream is a dream and can only be real if you make it ...

you should be scared, and i'd be careful who i told, you can still goto jail for attempted murder even if you don't know the person and it was only a dream!
