You have to ask yourself this question in context. Can simply being "polite" to these people hurt your career? Then you've got to do an attitude adjustment on your own part. You cannot afford the luxury of feeling detestation. What can you get out of working within this group? Focus on that. Are they brilliant in certain areas? Pick their brains. Can you forge an alliance with someone more senior to them? Then focus on that.

You have to remember that most humans can pick up the signals that someone they work with detests them, so you may not be fooling them all all. You've got to change your own attitude.

If you're at Starbucks, get another job. Another group of people can have a totally different dynamic and much more to your liking.

Why do you detest these particular colleagues? Just as the other answerer said, be cordial when it's necessary to be in their presence, otherwise, steer clear of them.

I took early retirement. I got away from all of my co-workers.
