If I want to cross the channel to France for an overnight trip, the cost for a return ticket is far less than if I go for a longer trip. Why does it cost so much more, as the ferry/ tunnel still has to provide the same service?

Sorry if I caused confusion. If I go for an overnight trip by ferry or tunnel it costs far less than a longer trip - (typically £50 return for overnight trip, but often more than £100 to go for a week. Hope this makes more sense.
