I feel that Britain's desire to go to war with Iran is a direct result of her alliance with the US who have been making veiled threats of war for some time now. Iran is in a pretty safe position to fill the vacuum left by the fall of Saddam's regime in Iraq, and they would no doubt raise a credible threat to Israel. If the western democracy's waited for Iran to attack Israel before taking action against her, they would be inviting the entire Islamic world to retaliate. Much safer for the west to attack on the pretext that an arms build-up in Iran would create a destabilizing influence in an already shaky regional balance of power currently held by the Saudis, who just happen to be the most western friendly power in that region
