I have an annoying problem with fruit flies in my kitchen. i keep no fruit out or any food out on the counter and any open food is in a sealed container. Any natural meaning non chemical solutions to this problem, i have severe allergies pets and a small child so i cant use a lot of chemicals. I hate bombs cause they smell up the house for ages after wards. Any ideas would be apreciated!

Attracting them to a trap and killing them is great...i would reccomended this, but the idea is to eradicate them as well. Fruit flies breed in places such as drains so treatment of the breeding site is recommended as well.
In the house hold kitchen there is normally a build up of food stuff in the sink drain... if u are able i would take the S bend pipe off and clear it of any food and clean with hot water. I would then pour a solution of hot water and a drain cleaning product down the sink daily. U should start to see an improvement within a week or so.
Chemical treatments for fruit flies are only so effective as it relies on the flie landing on ur walls and it is not ideal to be spraying ur walls with pesticide. If u find they are landing specifically in a certain place , window sill or above the oven, go to ur hardware and find a product that is suitable for fly control. There are things like sticky strips, and also fly pots that have no chemical in them.
I hope this helps

I have heard people using vinegar or beer in a dish to attract and drown them. But the best thing I ever used as messy as it is; is those sticky things that you hang. I got a few of those and hung them in my kitchen in a few areas and that got them all in about 2 days. It is a round cardboard tube thing that has a string on the end. You pull the string and a long sticky ribbon comes out, hang it and it attracts the little bugs and they get stuck to them.

Another thing to think about. If they are not coming from fruit, check any plants that you have out. Sometimes you get small gnat looking things from them, especially if you left them out side for awhile and then brought them into the house.

I really hope this helps - Good Luck

This is funny but take a small shallow dish and put some strong smelling red wine into it and set it on your kitchen counter. The little flies will be attracted to it and drown in it.

At least they die happy :)

Seeing as you have a child and sensitive pets to look after, you could try asking God to help. He will make a way and those fruit flies will be gone.
