According to the Social Security site, Barney has not appeared in the top 1000 names in the last fifteen years.
The last time it was on the list was in 1976 and it ranked 944.
So if you are looking for a name that your child is not likely to run into another in his age group, this is a good bet.

I have never met anyone named Barney. Just the cartoon and the old show Barney Miller.

I only know of one Barney and he is a big purple annoying dinosaur. If you are going to use this name use it as a middle name or your son will be teased daily.
