It seems that some of the more old fashioned values are coming back into vogue, where multiple generations live together and take care of one another. I was just wondering how many here have more than 1 generation living in the same dwelling, whether it's temporary or permanent?

I'm 27 and unashamed to say that I still live with my father. We take care of each other.

I will get back to you later. I am still counting. Let's see now. I am up to a million adults who live with their parents. It may not be old fashioned values coming back into vogue as it is the result of economic factors. In some cities adult children cannot afford to move out on their own and have to stay with their parents and pay rent. The same with grandparents who cannot afford to live on their own. Cities like New York, San Francisco and Boston are extremely expensive to live in.

I dont really see it as old fashioned values, but out of need. I live in the nyc where rent is insane, so even college graduates need to move in with 2 or 3 roommates and pay a ton, or live for free with their parents. Some new immigrants, like asians and hispanics, still live at home with their families until they are married, but I'd say this is rare. Most people that live with their parents do it out of financial crisis and aren't happy about it.

Quite a few especially when they don't work and save for their own places, they have wide screen T.V.'s but no savings.
Then when they get older they fall behind in accomplishments so i have seen younger people keep older parents in their home that deserve professional care because they need the older person pensions to live on. Sad but true not all the time but to much of parent abuse is occurring.

Old fashioned values? It's more like ridiculous house price inflation forcing adults to live in the family home well into their twenties and sometimes beyond.

The way I see it, it's either live alone and spend all your money on rent etc or stay with parents and gradually make money to buy house. I have friends who are married and live in their parent's basement. Not funny...

At some point, rent and house prices ought to go down.
