Ok here we go..........I am stationed in Iraq. We live in tents and I have everybody take thier shoes of at the front of the tent to prevent mud and dirt to spread throughout the tent. When I leave my room has to be organized the same day everyday. I think about people walking around the tent with thier shoes on and it drives me crazy. I have to be early for everything. If I am late it drive me nuts. As for my home in the states. Everything has to be neat. If something is out of place I have to put it back. So what do you think?

I think you're a neat freak, probably a control freak and somewhat ocd. If you're stationed in Iraq and this is the stuff you worry about, there is definitely a problem. Either way, I hope you come home safely.

The examples given, with my understanding of OCD are just the actions of a neat freak and nothing more. People with OCD will do something 10 times in a row to make sure that it is done the way they like it. eg; take of their shoes and enter the tent.. then get out and do it again 10 times. They switch lights on and off until it satisfies them. Wash their hands till they are red raw to make sure they are clean.

Yours doesn't sound too bad. Try deliberately being untidy in some area at home and absolutely refusing to tidy it as a form of therapy: also try getting there with just enough time to spare so you will still be slightly early, then slow down or diverge slightly ( if on foot ) so you will be there with seconds to spare only; otherwise walk away a bit, then come back (if in a safe area). Seek a medical opinion as to whether you need specialist treatment.

When you get back to the States, get it checked out. If you have OCD, it doesn't sound extreme. But I'll tell you this...being adamant about order in a combat zone could save your life. The small details matter in your situation!

Yeah just a little "MONK" no I'm just kidding it does'nt hurt to be neat but if it is all consuming then you might need an anti anxiety med just to take the edge off. good luck
THank you for your service!! Stay safe!
