It depends to what extent the war is at. If you're talking about say, an American child while the war in Iraq is going on. It wouldn't really affect them that much. But if the child was living in France or Poland in the time of the German occupation (2nd world war) Then their life would be changed fairly drastically, the stability that their life had would be taken away, and they would be exposed to the brutalities present in the situation of wartime.
