Maybe his tummy isn't ready to handle solid foods. If he is having trouble digesting it, it could be giving him a tummy ache.

Babies evolved to nurse 2 - 5 years. Weaning should be child led or it creates tremendous emotional pain which the baby is far too young to understand or cope with. In fact, early weaning was used in many cultures to make a child hard and warrior-like.

What do you mean by "weaning"? Are you cutting down on his bottle/breast feedings in order to get him to eat more solids? A 5 month old should still be getting his nutritional/feeding requirements by bottle or breast. He shouldn't be "weaning" at that age!! You need to talk with your pediatrician so you understand exactly how you should be feeding your very young baby. It sounds as though he's hungry.

It may be from the food...or you may also need to check his gums carefully. When babies are cutting teeth they start crying and waking in the night and he is the right age to have some popping in.

Stop the solids until he is 6mo & start again. See if this makes any difference. He may be too young & his digestive system too inmature to handle food, causing him pain.
