Every Laptop of will have a USB port (a rectangular slot)

If your laptop os really old you will have a PS/2 port.

If you have a PS/2 mouse (with a round connector) and a no PS/2 ports in the laptop (most of the new ones dont have PS/2) then you will either need a PS/2 to USB converter or buy an USB mouse

No I don't think you're supposed to do anything. Its happened to me before. I think some mouses only work certain laptops. I suggest maybe you get a different mouse. Or you can try again and see what happens as soon as you plug it in =]

It must have a USB port. Just get a USB mouse. Plus you can get special tiny mouses for laptops -- I've seen them at WalMart.

Yes. You just need a USB mouse. They aren't expensive. It plugs into any USB port. If you don't know what a USB port looks like, your system manual will show you where they are on your computer.

You most likely need a USB mouse. Many laptops no longer have PS/2 connectors.....

You can but i would not recommend it. I plugged a mouse into one of my USB ports. It was a rather small mouse, but when I had to shove it into such a small opening, it died and its guts squished out. I'd suggest perhaps a hamster instead.
