If your Vaio is a newer Laptop then i think my answer would be the best shot.

Sony has bundleded so many softwares that we dont even use once in a year. You can safely remove some softwares from addremove programs in .control panel.

Make sure you create a restore point before removing any program so that you can get back if u remove some software which is Imp.

Click start > run and type msconfig and click enter

Go to the startup tab and click the button uncheck all
And check only programs that you need on startup

If you havent defraged you Hard Disk recently run a defrag

Still have an issue get back to me

There may be unnecessary processes running in the background. U can try HiJackthis to chec out if any malware is responsible for this/

After that u can install the Adaware by lavasoft, and the norton 2005 SE to remove any virus or the malware from ur laptop.

You can have all the above software free from this site
www.i-search.co.in
At software download page

Does it sound like it takes a together as to spin up? does it make greater noise than it used to? if so you're able to need a sparkling hdd.

disable unused startup programs!
I recommend the use of the Windows startup manager http://www.neosoft-tools.com/windows-startup-manager.htm
It disables any startup programs and fully controls startup by selecting the programs to be launched, while customizing the startup settings (ie how often and when programs should be launched, etc).
