I have the answer to this ageless question.
When my nephew was just a toddler, my sister would get puzzled every time she did laundry...yep 2 went in but only one came out. Knowing that her washing machine was not Thunderdome we were perplexed. A few months later her washer gave her some trouble..being the hands on person my sis is she started taking apart her washer....no sooner had she removed the basket inside that holds the clothes she made the discovery and answered the Where does the other sock go question. It seems that on a spin cycle the socks were getting pulled up and thru a very small space where the basket connects to machine. She found 18 single socks trapped between the basket and machine that day.

Well...The best answer I can give to you is..."Hold on to that other sock." Seems like my washer or dryer likes to grab one once in a while and pretend to eat it. If I throw the other one away or start using it for a rag. The machines know it. Then they will spit it back out when the other sock has been destroyed. I know this sounds silly...but that's the way it happens at my house. So...to conclude...Hide the sock you have and just wait...it will turn up eventually. :-) Oh yeah...One more thing. Have you ran your hand down in the bottom of the washer...around the bottom of the agitator? Sometimes they like to hide there. Check it out.

Hugs, Jenny

I thought I was the only one losing the other sock. I have tones of misspaired socks. The only answer is that we have a one sock eating creature in the house.
Lately I have noticed that I sometimes, accidentally suck them up the vacuum cleaner.
But it's a fact that the sock producers will never go bankrupt.

If you don't use a fabric softener you can probably find the other sock inside some other piece of clothing. But then again you can always blame the washing machine and say it ate the sock.

It hijacks a pair of pants- and when it goes into public it sneaks off the inside of the pant leg- leaving the owner unaware!!! Sneaky socks!!D

I dont know what happened to it, but here's a tip... buy socks of the same kind... so if you lose 1 twice, you'd still end up with a matching pair. :)
