It is safe to travel anytime when ur pregnant. the only reason it is not safe to travel when ur 28 wks pregnant or more is because u cud deliver the baby anytime from then. One of my friends was pregnant in her 24th week and traveled a total of 24 hrs from Egypt to USA. So dont worry, it shud be fine. good luck

how far along are you, as in weeks? my moms friend traveled to the Philippines from the US when she was 5 months pregnant. When she arrived back to the US, she started bleeding at the airport, and she ended up losing the baby. So that's why it's not safe to travel. Your doctor will probably sign an affidavit saying that he/she is not responsible if you get hurt traveling. If this isn't a family emergency, then it's best to stay in the US.

It is safe to travel up to 22 weeks, as per GP guidelines. It is recommended that you have a check-up with your GP before you fly. Travelling after 22 weeks is usually fine also, you just have to have a letter from your GP for the Airline. As long as you have no blood pressure problems and the placenta is in the right position, all should be fine.

The normal advice is not to travel by air during your first and last 3 months (or trimester). But a 12hr trip is a long trip, and one does not know how 'normal' your pregnancy is. Best thing is to ask at your ante-natal clinic who will know your history. Also, some airlines are wary of carrying someone in their advanced stage of pregnancy, and not knowing your 'size', I would be wary of going by economy class on some planes. They are often too cramped and, if you're unlucky, you may have an inconsiderate passenger in front who may suddenly lower their seat on your tummy. Also check with your travel insurance.
If you really must fly economy, ask for the seats near the exits which have more leg-room, or an aisle seat. You may need to use the loo more frequently because of the baby pressing against your bladder.

where are you travelling from/to?

is there anyway you could split your trip up into 2 shorter flights ?

apart from that you will be ok at 22 weeks but its always worth double checking with your doc,
some airlines want a doc's note to say you are fit to fly.

drink plenty of water, get up and move around as much as possible, at least once every hour more if you can.

look at the links below for more info.

I traveled on a 10 hour flight from the U.S. to my new home in Germany with my three-year old daughter when I was 21 weeks along with my son. I was fine...it was tiring. I believe that most doctors advise pregnant women not to travel after they are into their 3rd trimester. You should probably try to get up and walk around every hour or two just to keep your blood circulating. Also, drink lots of water, because flying at high altitudes tends to dehydrate passengers. Other than being tired at the end of my trip, I was fine. And, I think most of my exhaustion came from traveling alone with my 3-year old...who wouldn't sleep!

It would be worth checking with the airline you are going to travel with because after a certain stage some airlines won't take you just in case you go into labour.

There is an increased risk of Thrombosis whilst pregnant and whilst flying so ask your doctor about what to do to lessen the risk e.g. flying stockings and moving your legs regularly whilst on the flight.

If it's not urgent - then don't do it.

If you really must travel, 18 - 24 weeks seems to be the safest time, but you MUST seek advice from your family doctor and health professional.

Some of the things you need to consider are in the articles below. DVT, Vaccinations to name a few things . . .

Pregnant women travel every day . Make sure to bring your insurance card just in case and contact the airline to find out if they will allow you to bring snacks and other items to keep you comfortable. They say your fine to fly up until 30 something weeks. Good luck enjoy this vacation it may be your last for a long time!

You shouldnt travel for the first and last three months of your pregnancy. You should be ok in the second trimester but if in doubt ask your doctor, just to be on the safe side.
