Some operating system (like windows) support plug and play. This technology allows you to plug-in your device and use it, like after you plug-in your mouse, you can use it. But not all devices are supported and is based on the version of windows. For instance, some printers may be supported by Windows 98 without using a manufacturer supplied driver and some may be supported only by Windows XP. When you purchase a new device, the manufacturer should provide a driver with the device. It comes in diskettes, CD-ROMS, etc. When you can't find the driver or is not supplied by the manufacturer, this means more likely that it is assumed that the driver is supported by many operating systems. In that case, try searching drivers from the manufacturer's website (commonly written in the package) or search it from microsoft. Some other websites also offers drivers to be downloaded, these are commonly community websites that gets it's drivers from the community. Do not attempt to modify USB.inf because if you don't know much about INF files, you may end up corrupting it and may cause more problems.

You probably might be experiencing a USB conflict. If u r gonna use the pen drive just for transferring data then plug out any other USB devices. That's only a temporary remedy.

U can try downloading patches from microsoft.
Try updating/reinstalling ur drivers.

If your computer has an AMD CPU, and Viatech USB Host Controllers; changing the USB Host Controller drivers to standard or generic drivers, may work. Sometimes, putting a line in config.sys, helps. ie. "lastdrive=m", if you don't have XP, then you need the drivers that go with the drive.

No. Leave it alone. You probably just need a driver. What operating system are you using?
