Hi There!

English is also my second language and I'm in Grade 10th, so I can tell you a lot about how to learn English in an environment where English is not often used. First you have to spend more time being in touch with English. That can be writing English emails, writing on your Blog in English, listen to English radio programs, or watch English TV. But be careful, you have to be selective of what kind of English you are consuming. Reading and Listening to good English can improve your English, vice versa. If you are looking for quality reading materials highly recommend novels by Jeffery Archer. His language is generally easy to understand and the stories tells you a lot about cultures of other countries. Also try listening to BBC world service.

Also spelling and grammar is extremely important. Most employers or college admissions officers would see wrong spellings or wrong grammar as bad English. So be careful with those stuff. ( Rules are rules, sorry mate. At least you will not have to learn it the hard way like I did.)

Send me an email (yikfeiko2004@yahoo.com) if you need further help. More than glad to give you a hand.

I'm in the same boat. I graduated from USA but now I'm in Egypt, so everybody speaks Arabic so I speak Arabic more often than I usually did when I was in USA. I do not communicate with people here in English very much. I think my English is still the same but sometimes I keep thinkin oh what did that word mean in English, I used to know it??!! However, watching tv and reading a lot of books will benefit u a lot. Also, try to speak English with ur friends at any available chance. I also got used to correct the spelling, pronounciation, and grammar of many non-native speakers so it's also a good practice.

I was also in the same situation but some what i improved then before by following tips;-
1)watch English news atleast for half an hour,
2)communicate with your friends in correct way still if they dont know English also,
3)read good novels,
4)write some essays or comprehesion practices and make it check with your English teacher.

When I am studying in high school, I have faced the same problem. My father understood the difficulty I am facing and told me to translate Editorials of Daily News Papers into our native-language (Telugu).English Editorials are tough and I have to refer dictionary. Every word will contain multiple meanings. So I used to select a particular meaning that suited to the sentence. In such a way I stored a number of words and meanings in my memory and learned construction of sentence.Afterwards my Father had given me another suggestion to talk with my colleagues in English, so that I can get-away from fear to speak English. I practised in such a way.Try it may help you. Best of luck.

Read many books in english, litterature, and watch films and TV shows, mostly english, not american. And try to write correctly and not abbreviations, like hav or somthin that you have written in your question. I don't mean that as criticism, just advice.

Listen to radio and t.v. in English and correspond with people in English on sites like YA. Go ahead and talk to people in English even though their English isn't as good as yours...they will probably appreciate the practice and you will learn from teaching.

the easiest way would be to watch english channels on TV! in dubai, watch whatever channels u get, in india try BBC and NDTV (news) or travel&living (lifestyle)
read the paper, books etc etc
tip: if ur gonna go to chennai, i'd suggest u learn Tamil if u wanna get around anywhere!

initially, a thanks to have fluent English is to have ideal grammar and not in any respect develop right into a retard at the same time as it includes typing on the internet. Have some appreciate for the human beings who examine your questions and/or solutions, because no one needs to verify this ****. you would possibly want to write it out totally in case you've been writing it on paper, and the final public can form many cases speedier than they could write it out longhand. Jeez...

I use to watch TV and see Hollywood movies, to not loose my conversation. I use Yahoo answers to improve my written English.

It's enough, I guess.
