this is the question that have been hunting me from along time, some people say it's all about math and others say it's a zone in our mind. So is it a mathematical equation or illusion that keeps us worm at night.

This is an answer that people like us, trapped in a small box of dimensions, reduced to five senses, only can presume. Einstein once said "time is a circle", instead of a line that came from past to get to present and will reach the future. Hindu tradition suggests time is maya, illusion. All time is but a short fraction of second, everything happens the same time. Some visionaires may break these chains for a moment and foresee facts. But they are just feeling outside the bubble. This would destroy the idea of freedom of choice, auto-determination, since future has already happened. This question leads us directly to the perception of Universe, and consequently, God, an infinite mind, the ultimate galaxy computer. What is left for us, poor flesh and bone creatures? The perception of that past-present-future line. Five minutes ago I was writing these words, in one minute I will submit them. Then they will be sent to Internet and will consist in something we understand as "past".

Forgive my ramblings

Infinity and the measures of nothingness must encapsulate all we have come to know. Thus nullifying the question.

The creation of communicative language itself to evolve a means to use that same language to explain existence itself thus negates any actual explanation of anything. Thus negating existence itself. And the word time...

Addition
This also applies to our 'science or otherwise' 'labelling' or 'naming' of any opposites....so hot cold - hard soft - time no time - white black. Think hard for no time or 'all of your time'.....and you'll see that there is no such thing as opposites because the word opposite is spurious in the language created thus negating it (and of course existence) altogether
