"The disease which thus evokes these new and wonderful talents and operations of the mind may be compared to an earthquake which by convulsing the upper strata of our globe, throws upon its surface precious and splendid fossils, the existence of which was unknown to the proprietors of the soil in which they were buried." - Rush

I am looking for feedback for this quote, opinions, and such.

It sounds like you may be referring to synesthesia or a similar experience whereby gems are uncovered within the mind. I don't know why Rush refers to something which evokes wonderful talents as a disease unless there are negative attributes coinciding with the talents. Any trauma to the head or the psyche can uncover new and wonderful talents as can deep and consistent meditation or contemplation. The very core of how we think and believe can be shaken as new vistas open up to our awareness. Some people hear color or see music or experience one sense through another. Some people see auras or hear things others don't. Some have prophetic dreams. All of these could fit within that quote. Are they abilities that at one time were the norm for mankind but were repressed and are now being uncovered bit by bit? Are they talents buried within the vast stream of potential of humanity? Whatever 'disease' Rush is speaking of, I'm hard pressed through this quote to find why he classifies it as such.
