Because the basic design of this world is that everything is always changing. The world is all energy and motion. (Anything that appears to be fixed and stationary is only so to our senses, not to a sensitive instrument.) Every living thing is growing and decaying simultaneously. When you make something (say, a drawing), you simultaneously and necessarily also destroy something (in this case, a clean sheet of paper and part of a pencil). It is the same with evey creative act in the universe, and in particular with life.

I believe that our DNA has been programmed to shut down our bodily functions after seventy or so years because of the multi-generational evolutionary process that is necessary to adapt to an ever changing environment.
If we cannot adapt, our species will die and the only way that we can successfully adapt to a changing environment is by evolving over generations.
So, someone has to die so that others can live.
