hCG levels can stay elevated after birth, misscarriage or termination for up to 9 weeks after, resulting in positve pregnancy tests. The link below will show you. If you do suspect a new pregnancy, see your doctor, otherwise wait a few weeks and test again. I suppose the best option here is seeing your doctor.

Unfortunately yes. Many people get false negatives on pregnancy tests but false positives are rare. The problem is when you have a termination carried out, the earlier it is done in the pregnancy, the higher chance it can be 'missed' when the process is carried out. The process involves simply the contents of the womb been scraped away. I have read aftercare leaflets and advice from a well known termination clinic and it does indicate that pregnancies terminated early (say around week 3 or 4) can be missed when the process is carried out & if after the termination you are still experiencing pregnancy symtoms (which should actually disapear straight after procedure) you should go back to have a check up etc. I don't want to alarm you at all but I do know about the information regarding terminations and I think you will need to have it checked out incase you are still pregnant. There is always the possibility that you have become pregnant agian since the termination but only you yourself will know if that is a possibilty too. Please talk to a doctor who will be able to check this out professionally. I wish you all the best.

If it happened to you it must be possible.
I can think of no logical reason why HCG would still be present in sufficient amounts to cause a positive reading on a pregnancy test unless you are pregnant. Negative results can always be faulty but a false positive is very rare.
You use the word termination, not miscarriage. Hormones can hang around longer after a "spontaneous abortion" rather than a termination. Under normal circumstances there should not still be pregnancy hormone in your system 8 weeks afterwards.
You need to see a doctor for advice and a plan of treatment.
You are the only one who knows if you could have possibly gotten pregnant again....or if this has to have been a failed termination. ( I would say that if you are still pregnant that is one determined baby. Maybe you can sue the doctor who did the abortion for "wrongful birth"....I read a news article about a lady that happened to)

As far as i know a negative result on a pregnancy test can be wrong but it is very unlikely that positive result it wrong. 8 weeks is a long time after a termination for it to still say you are pregnant!!!

Hi Marie - i was told by the local nurse that you can only get a positive if you have the pregnancy hormone present so either youre proper pregnant or you have a chemical pregnancy, where the egg hasnt embedded properly and your period will show up as usual / bit later and heavier. If in doubt, either call the GP surgery and speak to the nurse, or try NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Hope this helps xx

After my miscarriage i still had pregnancy hormones for 6 weeks afterwards ... u really need to see a GP on this one so a scan can be arranged or a blood test to see what the hormone level is at ... will give a clearer indication if u are pregnant or not.

Yes, but that probably means something went wrong. If it was a medicine induced termination, it may not have completed and you may need a D&C to remove remaining tissue. If you got a positive see a doc ASAP - unless it is possible you could have begun a new pregnancy.

Take care!

It wouldn't be unheard of - the best advice here is to contact your GP or the clinic asap. Occasionally the termination does not succeed in removing all the tissue or the pregnancy hormone can be quite slow to leave the body. Either way, you should get medical advice.

What's happened is that the termination procedure did not get rid of all the tissue that was inside the womb. This is probably what's causing the hormone which has provided you with the positive result.

You will have to go back to the hospital or clinic (miss out the middleman - dr), and speak to them, it may be that you need a further 'operation' to get rid of the residue tissue.

You are advised after termination not to have sex for 14 days and protected sex for 21 days because it is possible for you to become pregnant as soon as 2 weeks after a termination.

Sooooo, go to the clinic, discuss the problem and get them to sort it out asap!!!

You should really ask your doc. However after a miscarriage in Nov, the doc told me that if I was to do a preg test , there are still hormones left from the pregnancy in my body so this could explain why you have a positive, make any sense?
