Probably because British music tends to be more intelligent and less reliant on selling product by the bucketload.
There is a huge history of British innovators, from The Beatles and The Stones to Roxy Music, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Radiohead.

The whole world looks to the UK for groundbreaking and innovative music.

i call it the American idol disease, eventually everyone gets sick of Britney spears and green day knock offs. basically one American band hits it big then there is 10 or 11 bands next week with the same sound.
