Why is Chuck Hagel calling for diplomacy? With whom? Now if there were a country called "Terrorist", then maybe we could make them an offer they couldn't refuse but the terrorists are not a country and each has his own agenda to kill the infidels. Negotiating with one, will not appease another. Are we playing politics here? Elections coming and now those who were for it are now against it.

One more thing. If you are a Christian, you have your beliefs. No way on earth I could convince you your beliefs were bogus. Same with the radical Islamists, they worship Allah and the Koren. No way anyone can convince them otherwise, so any attempt with diplomacy is futile.

Most common people understand this:
If you get punched in the nose by a bully, and you run, what will he do? He'll chase you, right?
If you get punched in the nose by a bully, and you ask to negotiate with him for peace, what will he do? He'll either hit you again or negotiate on HIS terms.
Terrorists know how we work. They know that we'll want to negotiate terms of peace, so they've made a game out of it. First they take some territory or pick a fight. Then they claim they want to "come to the table". The purpose is to be able to compromise with us and take away part of something they've already taken by force and give us back only some of it.
Then they start over.
They attack again. They call for peace (again). They negotiate (again), and they go away with a little more.
They've been playing this game with Israel for a long time.
Chuck Hagel is a moron and this is one of the main reasons why terrorists want democrats in power in the US--because they're so easily suckered.

That's right, terrorists are not a 'country, they are everywhere apparently. So how the firetruck can anyone think they can catch and kill em all? The terrorists may not be a country, but there are identifiable groups, and maybe diplomacy may be a way through the Iraq problem. No, negotiating with one, will not appease another. That's why diplomacy is best achieved if all opposing groups are represented at the single table. It is all about politics. Diplomacy should be a major strength for any civilised society. Can it be achieved in the middle east? It never seems to get mentioned. It seems to be about 'search and destroy', house to house. It does appear to be a completely flawed strategy. Can Diplomacy work to resolve terrorism? Good question. I say 'Give peace a chance'.

Chuck Hagel did not say "diplomacy". He said that the Iraqi government has got to get its act together so they can handle their own problems such as the sectarian violence between Islamic sects. Do you think the Shiites or Sunnis are listening to us despite our weapons or troops? Actually the violence has increased. There are 1100 acts of attacks on US troops every day while the Iraqi government does very little to maintain police and military forces together. Over 45% go home or cross over to the insurgency. Those are problems the Iraqi people have to settle for themselves. The US needs to give that government a deadline so we can pull our troops out. We've already overthrown Saddam, there have been 3 elections in Iraq for new leaders, there were no WMD, no 9-11 Iraqi conspiracies, and we killed a leader who hated Ahmadinejad in Iran, hated Bin Laden, & now we have a free-for-all. It's not our business now. Hagel is one of the few Republicans with the courage to say "Get Out and make al-Maliki solve his own problems."

Absolutely. Just look at all the peace between the Palestinians and Israel after Clinton spent all that time having Arafat over to the White House for tea. Oh, that's right, it was continuous terrorist attacks on Israel during and after that.
This may be a hard concept for many to grasp, but people who want to kill you and cut your head off aren't going to negotiate peace with you. They may step up to the negotiating table, but it is only so they can use the time to prepare even more deadly attacks.

No one really knows whether "diplomacy" will work to solve or reduce "terrorism". The situation asserted by Bush's America is such now that it would be 'impossible' to just change to a peaceable course. US policies/involvement in Israel-Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan are the main reasons for "terror" to continue to thrive.
Diplomacy in this case means having dialogues with parties who are directly and/or indirectly connected with the volatile regions: Israel-Palestine, Iran, Syria; definitely not with any of the outlawed terror group/organisation listed by the UN-Western countries. This looks like the only viable option instead of continued militarism to try to alter situations. Because it is not about nation versus nation anymore.

We've always used diplomacy before.
We've negotiated with England, pirates, the confederacy, and fascists.
This is the first time we've ever actually NOT negotiated with the enemy, and look, we're still stuck in Iraq.

It would not work even if there were some entity to practice diplomacy with. Their hatred and brainwashing would not allow it.

Your commentary leaves no option for a liberal to answer for they wish to coddle terrorists. There will be nothing but anti-bush rants and death to america chants following this.
Nobody that understands the threat we face would ever talk to a terrorist. Their kind only understands biblical force. I say we shall deliver it to them.
To CK-idiot..............what is our terrorist enemy's political agenda? There are dozens of terror groups, each with a unique gripe. What do you propose we offer? Seriously!
To PS-Drummer-idiot........you are an idiot. "give peace a chance" please tell me you are enjoying a fine bag of military grade weed? What terrorist embassay shall we host this giant table discussion at? Maybe when Bin Laden emerges from his grave we can offer him a truce.........oh bin laden, where art thou mr ambassador bin laden?
