All the earlier answers are correct, however they don't really give you a solution to your problem. I assume the DVD player is a stand alone attached to a TV.

Go onto the net and do a search with your make and model number of DVD player followed by 'region code hack'. This will bring up loads of sites which offer the code to make your DVD 'All Regions'. You can enter the code with your remote control. Many sites are free. Some charge between £5.00 and £10.00 for the information you need.

Happy viewing.

The DVD is locked to Region 1. The only way to play that DVD is on a Region free DVD player, or Region 1 player.

If you type into the Internet what DVD player you have with the product code you might find a code to unlock your region making it multi region.

Otherwise take back the DVD as they have sold you the wrong region, all European regions are region 2.

The DVD or the player were manufactured in different countries
Each DVD-Video disc contains one or more region codes, denoting the area[s] of the world in which distribution and playback are intended. The commercial DVD player specification dictates that a player must only play discs that contain its region code. In theory, this allows the motion picture studios to control the various aspects of a release (including content, date and price) on a region-by-region basis. In practice, many DVD players allow playback of any disc, or can be modified to do so. Entirely independent of encryption, region coding pertains to regional lockout, which originated in the video game industry.
